Wellbeing Policy

Wellbeing Policy

Lles Cymru Wellbeing Wales believes the main aim of public policy is to improve people's wellbeing. In order to do this, four things have to happen.

  1. Use discussion on individual and community wellbeing as a means to understand peoples needs and aspirations.
  2. Have increasing individual and community wellbeing as the stated goal of all public policies and any subsequent interventions or activities.
  3. Use measures of wellbeing to understand whats currently happening and where changes need to occur.
  4. Use wellbeing measures to demonstrate the effectiveness of a particular activity, intervention, programme or policy.

The basis for the Lles Cymru Wellbeing Wales promotion of wellbeing is a model of sustainable wellbeing. This is made up of the following parts:

  • Psychological and physical wellbeing
  • Economic and material wellbeing
  • Community and society wellbeing
  • Environmental wellbeing.

This model is at the heart of the Exploring Sustainable Wellbeing Toolkit and the Field Guide to Wellbeing in Wales.

In order to help decision makers make sense of sustainable wellbeing, and its impact on delivering public services, Lles Cymru Wellbeing Wales have a number of current and planned resources (hyper link). These resources are there to help promote wellbeing described in steps one to four.
